Source4Teachers, based in Bridgeport, Connecticut, provides education staffing to school districts across the United States. In August 2016, Lincoln Public Schools in Lincoln, Rhode Island, contracted Source4Teachers to fill the substitute teacher positions in the county.

The partnership will provide Lincoln schools with teachers and teacher assistants for preschool and grades 1-12. It will also provide the district with temporary custodial staff and secretaries while relieving it of the administrative burdens associated with filling these vacancies itself.

Filling substitute teacher positions as they open has been a problematic endeavor for Lincoln Public Schools. This is because most teachers want stable, full-time employment rather than part-time positions. “Lack of substitutes is a national problem, just ask any superintendent,” stated the district’s Superintendent Georgia Fortunato.

Estimated to cost between $450,000 and $500,000 a year, the partnership will provide a higher fill rate in Lincoln classrooms. This amount is only slightly higher than what the district typically spends on substitutes.
